Eye Lid Lift Patient #1

Before After

This is a 57-year old woman from Chicago who was unhappy with the appearance of her eyes, feeling they made her appear tired. She was particularly bothered by the skin folds of the upper eyelids and the puffiness of the lower eyelids. Upon physical examination she was noted to have excess skin of the upper lids and protrusion of the fat pads along both the upper and lower eyelids. The patient decided to proceed with an upper and lower Eye Lid Lift procedure. For the upper eyelids, Dr. Sweis removed the excess skin, a small strip of muscle and the excess fat along the 2 fat pads that rest along the upper aspect of the orbit. For the lower eyelids, the incision was made inside the lower lid (transconjunctival Eye Lid Lift), the excess fat was removed and some of it was repositioned along the tear trough to address some of the hollowness along the tear trough.

Only a minimal amount of fat was removed from the three lower lid fat pads to minimize the potential for hollowness around the eyes which occurs with aging. The excess skin of the lower eyelids was removed through a separate skin incision just underneath the lash line. This approach did not interrupt the lower lid muscle and released the structures that could potentially pull the lid down, thereby minimizing the potential for changing the shape of the eyes. Her postoperative photos were taken 9 months following upper and lower Eye Lid Lift.
